The Man
Who Glamorized Capitol Hill
The iconic
painting of a neighborhood façade.
We’ve all seen them, the iconic paintings of a neighborhood
facade that graces the walls at countless Capitol Hill homes, greet us at
salons and most recently was on the cover of the local Hill Rag paper.
Ever-present in our interaction with the neighborhood, this painting, and others
by artist Pridon Goisashvili have become synonymous with Capitol Hill and with
Eastern Market.
Pridon Goisashvili, a lifelong artist from Tbilisi, Georgia,
began showing his work at Eastern Market almost 6 years ago in 2008. With the
eye of an artist from the age of 3 and with some formal training in art
schools, Pridon was able to appreciate and convey the cross-cultural influence
of Europe and Asia in the neighborhoods of his hometown. As the architecture
itself was so distinctive, Pridon expressed his own personality and experience
with the neighborhood through the use of vibrant color palettes. If you’ve seen
his take on a Washington DC cityscape, you’ll notice that although the
structure of landmarks is true to form, there is a whimsical quality that makes
you feel as if you’re stepping into a dream. (See below)

Pridon loves that the market allows artists, such as him, to
show their work as well as gain the support of the community. He continues to
faithfully display his work every Saturday and Sunday at Eastern Market even
when busy with multiple commissions.
